Here is my very dear friend's work. He is now married and reside in the U.K. He came a long way. He worked odd jobs, saved up and went to U.K to fulfill his life long dream to become a fashion designer.

You know it's not easy. Well, at least he started off as a stationary sales person and never got kick out of the country. He worked 3 jobs day and night and finally had a chance to enrolled himself into a fashion school.

These days, his work is all over and his talent realized. I feel so happy for him. All his hard work paid off finally. Yes, this is only the beginning. His work will gained global recognition. I hope that very much.

Money, Success, Fame, Glamour

I guess some of my friends wondering where have i been these days. I seldom take on any fashion styling jobs, nor do they see me anywhere in parties and events. Maybe some even thought that I got tired of the scene, nah, not that; i will never get tired of good music and my friends. I just happened to want to find out more about life.

Since young, I have never accepted death as an end for human life. And I don't believe in any religion that promised "eternal" happiness. I believe life is more, so much more; we just gotta make it happen "our way". You see, I never stop in searching for an answer. Whatever i do, i go extreme. Just like fashion, I don't want to be just any ordinary fashion stylist; I want it my way. Even in my country, so little appreciate what I do. But I insist, and that actually added to my disadvantage. Then it comes to being a clubkid, I do not care what others think. I dressed my way. I never stop. But along the way, I am still searching. NONE of those gave me any sense of security. I want. Yes. I am a greedy little bitch.

Anyway, to cut a long story short. I found a wonderful spiritual guide, read his book and found a place someday. KECHARA. That is how my spiritual journey started. One Book, one place and one guru changed my life. How ironic, for a person who never believe in religion and I proudly called myself a Buddhist now.

Well, am I going to preach about religion day and night? I am afraid I am not enlightened yet to guide you... hehe. So am I now saying partying, sex and rock n roll are bad? No, I just went to The Gossip's concert two weeks ago and danced my night away! (well, until my friend lost her phone.)

Why am i writing this? No reasons. I just want to share my thoughts. That night, me and my spiritual guide, my kind guru had a chit-chatting session. Well, maybe there is some deep dharma teachings lies beneath and i am too dumb to figure out. Yes, we talked about David Bowie, Grace Jones and Madonna... WHAT?

Yes. That's my cool guru His Eminence Tsem Tulku Rinpoche. That is how I learned the dharma.

What is your impression of a woman? Majority will say, gentle, caring, sweet, beautiful, sexy, passionate.. all kinds of nice things. It is actually just our perception. What if one holds wrong view and conduct wrong actions?

Take a look at these women. They are totally not inspiring at all. Not only they are conducting wrong actions, they even educate their own kids to do so. We heard men kill, but today i found out, women kill too. Yes, afterall mankind kill to survive. We kill daily for our taste buds, for that nice crab or fish on our dinner plate. Animals suffer for us. For pleasure.

Make It Hard by Helmut Lang

Helmut Lang retired from fashion industry in 2005, now his talented, complex, creative mind of Lang is now making art, all abstract and conceptual which was recently showcased at The Fireplace Project in East Hamptons.

"Make it Hard" is the title of the exhibition, it was inspired by Lang's idea to destroying archive himself and use it as raw material for his art. Mixing his own history, original claim to fame and a current back mirror view of his past as a fashion designer… Now an artist.

Of course, 'Make it Hard' also literally the transition from soft to solid, so there is a sexual reference implied. Something very Lang.

Legendary Punk Godmother won Polar Music Prize

In Sweden, there is a yearly affair called Polar Music Prize which resembles Nobel Prize, but it's for music. It is dedicated to musicians who worked very hard through the chemistry of music, literature.

From Bjork, Led Zeppelin to Boy Dylan are among those who were awarded the prize. This year's winner came no surprise (finally!) to punk "godmother" Patti Smith who, at 65, received the honor "for devoting her life to art in all its forms".

Patti Smith, who writes poetry, photography, painting, working as a rock journalism, performing, writing music… She literally does everything by herself, leaving in her own space, eat, sleep and breathe art. A inspiring icon indeed.

I like strong figure like that. Not just wasting time enjoying the 30 mins glamour on stage, trash some guitars, take some drugs and had women all around the world, that's all. Even there's a few tracks on the record are great, so what? There are more music to choose from. So there will never never be the ONLY number one.

I like how one lives for their passion, independent, creative and not living for the world. I wonder if Patti Smith support any charity moment, that would be great if she does.

Her new album is set to due next year. Congratulations Patti Smith, always had love your voice.

Talking about adidas Originals Street Party. It was AWESOMEEEEEEEEEE!!! haha, not because I did the styling and concept of the fashion show, the party was indeed GREAT! With Ze!, Bittersweet, Starwars, Goldfish & Blink, Altimet, Melissa Indot and fixies crews and many more... you get the picture!

Okay. U gotta know about her. If you don't, you better now. The electro-pop singer ZE! is originally from Malaysia and man, she rocks! She is hugely active in Europe country and she will be launching her album this coming WED (as seen in the flya).

I worked her on the styling at adidas Originals Street Party last friday (pic below) and she is really fabulous! Nuff' said!

The troubled photographer is good in talking sexual references editorials and recently got into trouble. Well, in the fashion industry is always vicious, how many girls and boys wanted to be famous so they sleep their way up? Again, i think it is definitely a personal choice while professionals should just do their jobs, not to abuse the relationships. Who am i to judge? We all have a choice rite?

Do you realise that fashion has sell sex to the next level? It seems like most models have to be very sexual in pictures in order to sell. Last time, a little bit of cleavage is already causing a buzz. But now, it is all about nudity. Well, i am not against it whatever ever, it's always good if a picture actually turned out exactly how the team visualized. The reason i talked about is because it must be difficult for models to actually have to deal with nudity issues as their job. Same goes with male models, now is not just showing pubic hair but visible ****** or the whole thing. So models or clothes? You decide.

My Encounter with Ling Tan after 10 Years..

I am a fan. Our very own Malaysian 1st Supermodel Ling Tan who has graced numerous runways, fashion magazines and campaign ads... Her unique beauty is irreplaceable. She spells oriental beauty. I would love to work with her some day...

It was 10 years ago... when she returned from New York to promo Emporio Armani's perfume launch. She signed a magazine cover for me and took pictures. Me acting like a small fan, shy and excited watching my supermodel idol and images of her in Dior show floated in my mind... and the stunning scene of guest appearance in the movie Studio 54. She is a star.

Surprisingly, 10 years later. I met her personally and formally introduced. She hasn't aged a bit, looking stunningly gorgeous without make up, plain comfy clothes and her signature long jet black straight hair. I am glad. Telling her the story...

Later, I found numerous covers featuring Ling Tan... Someday, I would really want to work with her. No matter how long it will take. I will.

It came as a shock to me when I heard about McQueen's death that night. I thought it was some rumours on twitter. But it turned out was not. I was loss of words and couldn't imagine a genius like that would choose to end his life that way.

I am writing this not to report the news but I just wanted to say a few words about the person who is ever so inspiring and creative.

I can't afford his clothes, But I have seen how beautiful they were made,
I haven't been to his shows but I know how he redefine the word "show",
I might not be fashionable but he teach me clothes is more than fashion,
I haven't met him yet, but i know he is still with us,
His work of genius will be a legend,
He can never be replaced,
Legend.

I dare to say he is the only one who push limits, who had a vision of a way of presenting his show. A show is indeed a show, not just any runway show. His clothes are created, spells more than fashion because it was never the current trend. It was a vision, an imagination turned into reality. Make it accessible, making it happen.

Who else can achieve all these besides Alexander McQueen?

To create is to create. Rest in peace Lee Alexander McQueen.

Stella McCartney adidas SS10 Collection Show @ Teeq Lot 10

Streething x Femmething x adidas hosted the recent and first time Stella McCartney adidas SS 2010 collection show at Teeq Lot 10. I did the styling of the show and Josh Bryan Ho for the make up and Unique Hair room responsible for the hair.

It was an outdoor show which we were meant to have the show on the lawn. With our brilliant set up, it looked fantastic with classical music playing and all vegetarian food and drinks were served. But, yes there is a BUT! The rain was starting to pour when the show was about to start. We hesitate to go on with the show or not (on the lawn), as the soil was damped and wet... After considerations, "the show must go on..." so the whole team decided to take a risk!! One of our team member Jeffrey Yee rushed down and bought 10 umbrellas for the models and YES, the show went on IN THE RAIN!

It was so Spring with the rain. The models were so professional and continue the show as if it was bright sunny day... The audience loved it even some of them had to hold umbrellas to watch the show. But it was perfect... with the rain stopped just in time for the 2nd round.

The event was a success. Beautiful beautiful show. Here are some pictures from the event. :)

He was also hired as the main stylist/costume designer for Michael Jackson's "This is It" tour. You will be surprise to know that this Parsons graduate and FIT trained designer started his career as a model who had graced the catwalks for Gaultier and Vivienne Westwood. His stunning creations and crazy pieces were worn by many and he is also the man behind Gwen Stefani's label LAMB. Fabulous is the word, if not; it should be outrageously creative.

To be honest, since young... i am a fan of of those mohair sweater cardigan. It is just that our side of the world is too hot and I couldn't really wear it. However, there are still pieces knitted wear I kept since 90's as I believed the trend would someday some back. And it's happening now! The first time i saw something called "body modification" was from Leigh Bowery, how he actually modified his body using clothing. Fast-forward - futuristic fashion in 90's is part of body modification for me eg Hussein Chalayan architect inspired collection, Issey Miyake, Pacco Robanne, Thierry Mugler and even today's designers are coming up with different silhouette that modified the shape of the body. This is getting exciting in the fashion world... everything is becoming so robotic, we now have one Lady Gaga; in few years time, I think we will all look more gaga than she is and we might even make friends with robots?

Here is what I find both creatively done and inspiring, taken from L'Official Hommes China January Issue #226 shot by Xu Chuang, Modelled by Zhang Liang, titled "Fashion Revelation". At least now I have a preview what an asian would look like in the future. Not so bad after all...

This is one I did for Femmething about the recent padded shoulder trend. Here is a deeper look into how it came about... :)

Power shoulders, that's how I called it. In our generations, we heard about shoulder pads coming from the 80's... admiring those vintage power suits that mum and aunties wore. But now not only shoulder pads, the whole strong shoulder silhouette has evolved... into something more powerful and looks like it could weather any storm!

These power shoulders are seen everywhere these past few years and recently the trend finally hit the streets, girls were seen looking for a more definite shoulder emphasis silhouette ranging from jackets to dresses. Do you know how the whole shoulder thing came about? Let's sit on my shoulder and bring you to the journey...

It all started in the 1930's, thanks to designer like Elsa Schiaparelli introduced a wide shouldered pants suit. Marlene Dietrich wore it and the whole Hollywood goes shouldered madness.

Legendary costumes designer Gilbert Adrian created his "inverted pyramid" dress where it emphasis the shoulders and narrowed the hips. It made famous by Joan Crawford and it created a following.

In the early 40's, due to World War II; women's fashion became military inspired. Shoulders were stronger, bulkier and bigger.

German pop opera Singer Klaus Nomi took the shoulder to the next level in the 70's. He created the whole new futuristic look which stunned the fashion world.

Claude Montana is one designer that was named "The King of Shoulder Pads" in the 80's. Women who are looking for corporate success adopted the "power suit" silhouette. Then "Dynasty" came along, so those big shouldered super bitches look was a must-have.

Always very fashion forward, Chloe Sevigny began to rock strong shouldered jacket from Balenciaga since 2003 even way before the power shoulder trend hits the people.

Now, almost every page of fashion publication or the friend next to you are excited about the coming back of the power shoulders. It came in every form, structure, material, silhouette and embroideries; more powerful than ever. Designers like Marc Jacobs, Balmain, Alexander McQueen, Gareth Pugh, Maison Martin Margiela are no strangers to the trends. So dig out those shoulder pads we use to tease about and start adding. See who is bigger, stronger now power bitches!

When collection, they told us the system is down and people are queueing up without informing people... Luckily we walked up and asked, if not??? Then the whole place black out, can you imagine immigration office black out? WTF?

Anyway, i have the though of cutting my hair short. I always wanted to grow long hair but the length now is pretty irritating... ahhh, should I cut or grow it? damn.

V Magazine is definitely doing something good. In their latest issue "The Size Issue", titled "One Size Fits All", shot by Terry Richardson and modeled by plus-size model Crystal Renn and a very modelly Jacquelyn Jablonski posing in similar poses and bring it on. The ironic part is Renn do not look awkward at all in fact, you can't really tell that she is a plus size. This simply means, if you wear it right, you can make it work!

Work it girl, make it work! Fashion is suppose to be fun and in your face!

V Magazine issue #63 will hit the newstand on 14 January 2010. And Renn's book titled : "Hungry: A Young Model’s Story of Appetite, Ambition and the Ultimate Embrace of Curves,” will be released this fall.

Last Thursday night I was invited by Lah' Lah' Land to DJ at their 1st Anniversary party: Neon Jungle Kids. The club was decorated in a jungle like place, with dried leaves, "real" bananas, and lots of blow-up toys. The kids of course came in their jungle colourful outfits! The challenging part of Boo Ritson's artworks is that she has only 20 minutes to create her masterpieces before the paint dries, which means only her and her photographer Andy Crawford ever see the work in its raw form. Using house paint and a fresh canvas before the paint washes off her subjects and her masterpiece disappears. The idea of using real people came to her one Christmas, since then it never stop to be inspired and transform people into thickly-daubed Hollywood stereotypes from Sunset Boulevard hookers, eager starlets and heavy duty police officers. Pop art gets a new coat of paint.

People used to laugh at people when they are still wearing shoulder pads. So yesterday. But now, sharp big power shoulders, it is all about the structure, structure. Big shoulders, big hip, tiny waist, loose bottoms (sounds like human body alteration, anyone?) are in trend to continue the super 80's vibe slowly emerging into the 90's silhouette (MC Hammer a comeback). Who cares about your shoulder is bigger than your boobs?

Malaysia's Ford Model Search another "drop" model competition

If model search shows like "I want to be a model" is bad enough to watch, then "Malaysia Ford Model search" is another one. With high expectations, after seeing the selected top 12 i know i can't bear to watch the rest of the coming episodes. Those are not model quality, too bad. Being a model it's either you have it or you don't. Yes, you can look super beautiful but it doesn't mean you have what a fashion model has. vice versa, if you look super ugly to the eye of people but it doesn't mean you don't have what it takes to be the beauty of fashion. But tagging with a name like 'Ford Models' there are certain criteria of being one, certainly none of them are eligible, too bad.

If all these shows are earning a lot of money or ratings..(good for the company) but it only reflects a bad name on our fashion industry. What you see is what you get. That is how people perceive or judge your work. come to the judges and guests, goosh.. same old people... Gillian Hung, a fashionista? (perhaps in the 90s..); kee hua chee? (which part of him spells fashion? and he was rude enough to call m faggot when he met me) and wtf is Benjamin Tong? A wannabe Ms.J Alexander... Just bcoz he could walk in a 7 inch heel, it doesn't make him the runway coach! His catwalk is so outdated and draggy.

I know these people are the pioneer of building the fashion industry and hard work and effort were seen. But that was in the 90's where our fashion is just began, but now we are venturing into the world of internet and world press. People know their shit. So i think they should really stop leaving in the comfort zone and get out to see what the kids are doing now...another laughing stock for the people.

A self-taught, only 20 year old director, performer and visionary. A flesh collaboration with acclaimed photographer David Sims and W Magazine, his newly formed company of talented and passionate dancers, musicians, artists and performers traveling from London to Tokyo to realize their ambitious project to date.

This is a post i did for femmething. Sharing a part of a club kid's life and the sweats and hard work behind the outfits and horrible make up. But we would never complain coz it's fun! Can you guess which one is me?

Many have heard about the term "club kid" but how many actually got it right? Many misuse the term to describe frequent club goers but the real meaning behind it lies a history that properly consist more sweat and efforts than the two words.

You probably seen the movie "Party Monster" and heard about "Studio 54". The glamourous of it, and the ugly truth behind that fabulous make up. But would you be shocked if I tell you real club kids are still around and actively doing the things they believe in and still living the legend?

We know about dressing up to club, but to outdo one another creativity is a lot of effort. The clubkids would plan what they would want wear to the next party, stitch and handmade, pins and needles, and acting fabulously. From the days of Studio 54, to the days of Taboo and Blitz; the kids have find a way to express themselves through their costumes and makeup. A place where all like minded people get together and dance the night away.

Leigh Bowery, Michael Alig, James St James, Amanda Lepore, Boy George among the others are probably the ones that take dressing up to clubs to another level. Michael Alig infamous "blood feast" party, and Leigh Bowery impressive and ultra shocking outfits and the one who claimed herself as the first ever transexual in the world with a fully functional vagina Amanda Lepore created a revolution in the club scene and many were stunned and yet began to participate and expressing themselves through their outfits.

Today, we have Kashpoint with my favorite tagline "Streetwear stays on the street" or nights like Boombox, Carigula, All You Can Eat etc are the newer version of the blitz kids. Cult mag like SUPER SUPER is the new clubkids dedicate their lives to club fashion and art. Clubkids like NIYI, Namalee, K-Tron, Warboy, The-O Theo Adams, Scottee, Gareth Pugh and among others are seen DJing, promoting clubnights and performing living the spirits of the clubkids. Don't be surprised if I tell many musicians, artists and designers actually stolen ideas or inspired from the clubkids! Remember Gareth Pugh first debut collection where you get to see a Leigh Bowery shadow or Lady Gaga shocking values is not all hers or her stylists fault. Icons like Bjork, Goldfrapp, Roisin Murphy are seen frequent goers to those clubkids nights.

Neighboring country like Singapore's Butter Factory is probably the only clubkids hangout. Many would have questions and some even freakout when you see one but these are the shocking creations that you won't get to see on the runway nor on any commercial platform and definitely a one-off! Imagine the creativity, the vision, the efforts, the loyalty and the sweats through out the whole night behind all the clubkids. REPLAY: NIKE Media Styling Session

I was invited by NIKE Malaysia for a media styling session giving tips and ideas on how to transform your daily sportswear into something more fashion forward and street chic. Here is the post from femmething. Enjoy.

Last 15^th October Femmething was invited to a Nike styling session done by our very own stylist Ethan Chu. Nike Malaysia introduced their latest Holiday 2009 collection featuring some of training and active wear from Nike Women’s Training. Held in The Curve, Petaling Jaya, Nike showcased what women can do to look good and train right. Ethan having worked with Nike before revealed a series of outfits for women using gym wear/ sport wear making it as trendy and stylish to be worn anywhere, whether it’s at the gym or out to a club. A few of the highlight pieces are the AW77 Fleece Hoodie, Air Maxim and Windrunner that are designed to be the pinnacle of both performance and style. Also remember the Limited Edition Nike Zoom Sister One posted previously. Well it is now available in Malaysia. YUM!

Nike Women’s Training and Nike Sportswear collections are available at Nike stores in Malaysia.

Introducing: Yang Du

This is my post for femmething. Yang Du has always been one of my favourite. I love it. I think the 3 words is not enough so I feel I have to introduce her to you personally to show my appreciation of her work.

In love with Yang Du, always. Remember we did a feature on Yang Du? Recently, Yang Du presents her whimsical fashion exhibition at the Assembly Rooms, London. Displays are a range of knitted porkchop jumpers, rabbit cactus hats, beaded bears and tuxedos with elephant headwear.

"I am happy when people tell me that my collection made them laugh" Says Yang Du.

Not only it made me laugh, it makes me happy. I would be happier if I get to wear her creations someday!

"Falling In Love Is A Risk" is a multi -media exhibition of Yang Du's collections, to take an intimate look at her creations from film projects to furry apparel and photography that catalogue the moments of inspiration for her beautiful fashion designs.

Yang Du's exhibition runs from 10th October to 27th November at The Asembly Rooms, 8 Silver Place, London, W1F OJU. All the items can be purchased from Tien at sales@tien.org.uk-
